The Kansas City Southern Railway operates the 'Meridian Speedway', a busy 320 mile long rail corridor from Shreveport, Louisiana to Meridian, Mississippi.
Volume Two covers the state of Mississippi. Starting at the Mississippi River Bridge in Vicksburg, this line travels east for 150 miles through the city of Jackson and onto Meridian. The KCS acquired this route from MidSouth Rail in 1993 and is former Illinois Central trackage. The Meridian Speedway is operated as a joint venture with the Norfolk Southern (30% owner) and is a vital link to transport intermodal, manifest, bulk commodities and energy trains across their system. KCS power dominates the action, but you'll also see trains with NS, CN, UP, and BNSF diesel power. Plus a brief look at three KCS connecting shortlines being the Mississippi Southern RR, Meridian & Bigbee RR and the Meridian Southern Ry. Rail footage era 2022 from the camera of Bradley A. Plets.
