The United States Steel Corp. was formed in 1901. The steel maker owned numerous large steel mills around the country and over the years also operated several transportation companies consisting of both rail and ship. Large amounts of raw materials were mined and transported by U.S. Steel affiliates including: Limestone, coal, and iron ore products, which were then used by the mills in their steel making process. In this program you’ll see six railroads and eleven ships in action as they were once a major part of U.S. Steel’s transportation divisions.
