The Trains of Algoma Country
Located along scenic Lake Superior in beautiful Ontario, Canada, this fascinating video takes a look at the operations of the Algoma Central Railway. This video was filmed between 1992 and 1993, and in it you'll see the iron ore trains, general freight/pulpwood trains and the passenger/tourist operations. Locations include Sault Ste. Marie, Hawk Junction, Wawa, Franz and Michipicoten Harbor. At Sault Ste. Marie you'll see ships and the world famous Soo Locks, ACR and Algoma Steel switchers working the Steelton Yards, and the connecting roads of the Wisconsin Central & CP Rail. Activities on the CPR include switchers working the Sault yard and a three unit Alco powered freight heading east for Sudbury. Plus, as an added feature, there's also a caboose and cab ride on ACR locomotive #185 as it works the line from Hawk Junction to the sintering plant at Wawa and then on to the steep 4% grade to Michipicoten Harbor.
